Shadow over Aeldia
Our story so far Part 1
As part of his grand plan for reclamation, Baron Ketzer sent out a summons, calling any would be adventurers and mercenaries to his keep. Many dozens of adventurers heeded the summons. Once all the heroes had arrived, the Baron announced his intentions for summoning them. He desires to reclaim the fallen city of Delver’s Bluff. To that end he is hiring the heroes to map the region, and to eliminate any monsters living in the area. He offers a reward in gold for accurate maps, and additional gold for every monster scalp brought to him, but the offer is only valid for a week. After that time anyone who has not returned will be assumed dead and forfeit any claims to reward.
With the help of his Archmage Iago and Chancellor Veccio, Baron Ketzer had created a grid, effectively cordoning the region into various smaller areas. He then assigned each grid to a team of adventurers. As none of them were a member of any established adventuring or mercenary team, whether by luck, coincidence, or fate, Adrastea Drynn, Dachande, Aeramal Galaeth, and Garth Stormforge were teamed together. Due to Dachande’s skills as a ranger, the party found several shortcuts and reached their assigned area ahead of schedule and without incident.
Dachande’s rangering skills again came in handy as the party began to map their assigned area: a forested area of the foothills to the east of Delver’s Bluff. The party quickly learned that this area was home to a mixed tribe of goblins and kobolds, and engaged in several skirmishes with the green-skinned brutes, shattering the tribe’s lesser ranks. On the second day of their quest, the party heard movement in the underbrush and prepared for battle, only to find a disheveled and blood covered human stumble out of the woods. He introduced himself as Roger Merrill and explained to the party he was also on commission from the Baron, but his party had been killed by the goblin tribe in a fierce battle from which he had barely escaped. The party agreed to let Roger join them and share in their spoils. The rest of the day proved to be an uneventful one of mapping the region until the party came across a clearing, where they were set upon the remaining goblin tribe members and their leader, a fierce bugbear. The party proved triumphant and came to realize their respective skills complemented each other well.
The next day the party found they had only one small part of their assigned area left to map; a rocky more mountainous area closer to the city of Delver’s Bluff. While exploring, Aeramal and Adrastea broke through an unstable patch of ground, causing a small landslide that filled the hold in their wake. The rest of party realized that the mountain was dotted with caves, and decided to brave the caverns in an attempt to rescue their separated comrades.
